パラオ1_1パラオの国・州のリーダーが日本の環境相石原伸晃を歓迎するため、ナガラチャマヨン文化センターにて開かれた晩餐会に集まった。レメンゲサウ大統領は、スピーチの中で、石原大臣のパラオ来訪に謝意を表し、20年間に及ぶパラオと日本の外交関係はこれから一層促進されるだろうと述べた。加えて、両国の親密な関係は地理的な距離を超えて築かれていると。
「我々は日本人と日本政府の支援に感謝している。パラオの景観に魅せられて来訪する観光客の数も日本が引き続き1番です。また、技術、財政、人道的な援助やボランティアサービスの提供はいうに及ばず、日本からの投資は、パラオの国民経済の成長に重要な役割を果たしています。」とレメンゲサウは言う。
また大統領は大型台風ハイヤン(30号)の犠牲者に対して、東京のパラオ大使館に寄せられた寄付についても言及した。
日本の内閣の一員であり、日本パラオ友好議員連盟の会長である石原大臣は、パラオのリーダーたちの温かい歓迎に謝意を表した。
晩餐会に先立って、石原大臣と公的インフラ・産業・商業大臣のチャールズオビチャンはJCM(2国間クレジット制度)に署名をした。 〈概訳〉

Palau welcomes Ishihara

Palau’s national and state leaders gathered last night in welcoming Japan Minister of Environment Nobuteru Ishihara in a dinner reception held at the Nagarachamayong Cultural Center.
President Remengesau, in his speech, expressed appreciation to Ishihara for visiting Palau. The president said that the 20 years of diplomatic relations between Palau and Japan will prosper in the years to come. He added that the relationship of the two countries is a fruitful brotherhood that is forged beyond geographical location.
“We are very thankful for the support of the people and government of Japan. The number of Japanese tourist continues to be number one in terms of tourists arrivals to Palau and they are treated to the wonders and beauty of our islands especially the Rock Islands. Japanese investments have also become an important ingredient in the growing economy of our nation not to mention the technical, financial, humanitarian assistance and volunteer services rendered to the people of Palau,” Remengesau said.
The president also made special mention of the monetary donation given by the people Japan to the Embassy in Tokyo for the victims of super typhoon Haiyan.
Minister Ishihara, who is also member of the House of Representative in the National Diet of Japan and president of the Japan-Palau Parliamentary Friendship League, thanked Palau leaders for the warm welcome.
Prior to the dinner reception, Ishihara and Public Infrastructure, Industries and Commerce Min. Charles Obichang signed the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM).
